A FRESH CHAPTER'S 2019 PERU ODYSSEY PROGRAM

When I completed my first round of treatment for Metastatic Melanoma in 2015 I was unprepared for the devastating emotional scars of cancer. My cancer recurred in 2016. I recently completed 2 years of treatment and am currently cancer-free! This time I'm determined not to experience the same emotional post-treatment setbacks. I started looking for ways to turn my experience with this terrible diagnosis into something positive - a way to take that feeling of love and support that I have received and spread it to others who aren't as fortunate. After searching and applying, I have been offered an amazing opportunity! I have been selected to join an organization called A Fresh Chapter on a trip to Peru! While there I will be volunteering and serving as a Cancer Ambassador in communities where cancer is often veiled in secrecy, shame and stigma. I'll be meeting and working with other AFC volunteers whose lives have been impacted by cancer. I'm so excited to become part of a tribe of fighters who can relate to what I've been through. I know I can learn from them, and I'm hoping that I have insights that will lend to their journeys as well. This opportunity will help me continue to grow and heal while allowing me to share love and support with others. Thank you for donating to my fresh chapter!

 

AFC empowers those affected by cancer to heal, connect, and serve others while reclaiming their lives.

A Fresh Chapter's Peru Odyssey Program offers an innovative support model that blends volunteering, meaningful travel, and the support, tools and resources for cancer survivors to reframe adversity and redefine what’s possible in their lives.  For two weeks in November 2019, our participants will travel to Peru with fellow cancer survivors.  While there, they will volunteer with local organizations that provide support to cancer patients, the elderly, underserved children, or those living with disabilities. They will also get to experience AFC’s innovative psychosocial support model exploring the emotional impact of cancer.  They will return home with new perspective, leadership skills, and the opportunity to continue to give back in their local communities.
 
Donations will be used to cover program related costs.  If your employer participates in a matching program you can submit a match for your donation.  Please choose the charity "Fresh Chapter Alliance Foundation via SOCIAL & ENVIRONMENTAL ENTREPRENEURS SEE INC."  Please add a note with the participant's name when you submit the company match.
